BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) is pleased to announce the return of Dr. Timothy Mims as Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies and Co-Director of Church Minister Relations. Dr. Mims, a seasoned pastor with 29 years of experience in ministry, will play a key role in mentoring the next generation of Christian leaders. “I love Blue Mountain Christian University and am excited about coming back home,” Dr. Mims said. “As I celebrate 29 years of pastoral ministry, my heart is passionate about investing in the next generation of ministers—those who will preach, lead, and shepherd churches both in our region and around the world." Blue Mountain, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) announces the retirement of Dr. Sharon Ball Enzor, a distinguished educator and leader whose contributions to Christian higher education span more than three decades. Dr. Enzor has served the university in numerous leadership roles, including 21 years as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, 14 years as Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and 35 years as a professor of science. Her steady leadership and unwavering commitment to Christ-centered academic excellence have left a lasting impact on BMCU’s students, faculty, and institutional direction. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Enzor played an integral role in shaping academic life on campus. She served as Chair of the Dean’s Council and the Assessment Committee, Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and Accreditation Liaison. She was also a valued member of the Graduate Council, the President’s Cabinet, and numerous other university committees, helping guide key initiatives that advanced the mission and vision of BMCU. In addition to her leadership on campus, Dr. Enzor has been active in regional and national academic communities. A longtime participant in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), she has served as a peer evaluator for 27 institutions and chaired several substantive change reviews. Her outstanding service to the organization was recognized with the prestigious Carol A. Luthman Meritorious Service Award. Before her time at BMCU, Dr. Enzor spent 24 years as a science teacher at the junior high and high school levels across Tennessee, Alabama, Montana, Mississippi, and Missouri. She also served as an instructor of physical science for the Mississippi Science Teacher Enhancement Project at the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Enzor has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including BMCU’s Most Outstanding Faculty Member Award, the HEADWAE Award, the Zeta State Scholarship, and Middle School Teacher of the Year for Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Schools. Her influence extends beyond education through her active involvement in professional and service organizations. She has held leadership roles in Delta Kappa Gamma Society International at local, state, regional, and international levels, and has contributed to organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association, Mississippi Science Teachers Association, Mississippi Association of Institutional Researchers, and the International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities. A proud alumna of Blue Mountain College, Dr. Enzor holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences from BMC, a Master of Combined Sciences in Biology from the University of Mississippi, and a Doctorate in Science Education from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. She is also an active member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, where she has served as a Sunday school teacher and ministry volunteer. “Dr. Sharon Enzor represents an elite group of educators with the capacity to understand, model, and promote the integration of faith and learning,” said BMCU President Dr. Barbara McMillin. “Under her leadership as provost, our faculty have been challenged and equipped to pursue nothing less than Christ-centered academic excellence. Blue Mountain, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) proudly held its session of commencement exercises on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium. The ceremony recognized the achievements of 167 graduates: 101 women and 66 men, including 35 recipients of master’s degrees. These graduates represent 13 states and 11 foreign countries, reflecting the university’s growing reach and impact. BMCU President Dr. Barbara McMillin delivered a charge to the Class of 2025, encouraging them to stand firm in their faith, pursue excellence, place Christ at the center of all endeavors, serve with intentionality, and plan today for a brighter tomorrow. The university also celebrated the retirement of Dr. Sharon Ball Enzor , who was honored for 35 years of dedicated service to BMCU. Dr. Enzor, who has served in numerous leadership roles including Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, pronounced the undergraduate degrees during the ceremony. The commencement address was delivered by Juanita Floyd , Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration at the CREATE Foundation. Floyd, a distinguished professional with over 40 years of service to the foundation, delivered a powerful and personal message centered on perseverance, faith, and purpose. Floyd challenged the graduates to embrace their journey, pursue their dreams, and make their lives count. “You are standing on the shoulders of those who sacrificed and prayed for you,” Floyd told the graduates. “Your dash, the time between your birth and your death, matters. Make it count.” The university sends forth the Class of 2025 with confidence, prayer, and hope for the future. As BMCU continues its mission to prepare students for lives of service and leadership, this commencement marked another meaningful chapter in the institution’s long legacy of Christ-centered education. This prestigious award, part of the Leora Duce Leadership Initiative, recognizes students who have excelled in their academic pursuits and demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities throughout their time at the university. Initiated by Dr. Leora Duce, a distinguished 1957 BMC graduate, the leadership program aims to equip students with the skills and values necessary for effective leadership both on campus and in their future careers. The selected recipients have shown commitment to their studies, active engagement in campus activities, and a dedication to improving their communities. BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) officially broke ground on the Center for Grace and Healing , a transformative facility designed to prepare future healthcare professionals. The May 2 ceremony brought together board members, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and local community members to celebrate this historic milestone. The Center for Grace and Healing will serve as the new home for BMCU’s School of Nursing and will offer expanded space for natural sciences. The $15 million facility will include eight classrooms, 16 offices, simulation and science labs, and a conference room—significantly enriching the university’s academic infrastructure and student learning experience. Construction of the building will be led by Worsham Brothers of Corinth in collaboration with Oxford Architecture of Nashville, Stamps Design Group of Knoxville, and supported by USDA Rural Development. “Groundbreaking for the Center for Grace and Healing launches the construction of a beautiful addition to our already picturesque campus, but more importantly it marks the beginning of a new era of Christ-centered academic excellence at BMCU,” said Dr. Barbara Mcmillin, BMCU President. “We praise God for the opportunity that this new facility affords us for educating healthcare professionals who are equipped to minister to patients with skill, compassion, and grace.” This marks the first new building to be added to the BMCU campus since the completion of Fisher Washburn in 2005. Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) is excited to announce the launch of several new academic programs in collaboration with Rize Education, aimed at preparing students for success in fast-growing industries. The new offerings include a Digital Marketing major, and two new minors: Nutrition and Esports & Gaming Administration. Among these, the Nutrition minor is available fully online, offering students the flexibility to pursue their studies from anywhere. This program provides a science-based approach to dietary health and wellness and is ideal for students interested in public health, fitness, and related careers. BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Blue Mountain Christian University Chorale will host its annual spring concert, “Rejoice and Sing!” on April 24, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium. This year’s concert will showcase diverse choral works, celebrating joyful music from the 17th century to contemporary pieces. Under the direction of Dr. Greg Long, Chair, Department of Fine Arts, the program will include a late Renaissance motet by Hans Leo Hassler, a Baroque chorus by Handel, and an acapella hymn by Mendelssohn. Audiences can also look forward to modern settings of Psalm texts, a new Easter hymn, “Christ Is Risen,” by Keith and Kristyn Getty, and a lively spiritual titled “Pick Up a Crown,” composed by Heather Sorenson. The concert will also feature guest artist Isaiah Traylor, a tenor and former BMCU student. Traylor, a 2016 Tupelo High School graduate, attended BMCU from 2016 to 2018. As a student at BMCU, he became an award-winning performer in Dr. Long’s voice studio. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in music (voice performance) from the University of Mississippi and a master’s degree in voice from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Traylor is currently pursuing a career as a professional singer. This special musical event is a gift to the university and the community, with no admission charge, making it open to the public. BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian University is proud to announce that Dr. Rosalynn Rutland, professor and program coordinator of degree programs in Spanish within the Department of Language & Literature, has been named the 2025 Humanities Teacher of the Year by the Mississippi Humanities Council. As part of this prestigious recognition, Dr. Rutland will deliver a public lecture entitled “Educators Perceive Biliteracy as a Resource for Students in Mississippi.” The lecture is scheduled for February 27 at 4 p.m. in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium, located in the Lowrey Administration Building. A reception honoring Dr. Rutland will follow at the Paschal Student Union Building. Since joining the BMCU faculty in the fall of 2016, Dr. Rutland has been dedicated to fostering an engaging learning environment for her students. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Mississippi University for Women, a Master of Arts from Mississippi State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi. “Since the adoption of the Mississippi Seal of Biliteracy in 2020, literacy in English plus another language has replaced the perception held of English-only literacy as best for Mississippi students,” said Dr. Rutland. “It’s exciting to share that educators like school administrators, counselors and classroom teachers perceive that students’ home languages in addition to English is valuable to their education. Educators in two schools in Mississippi stated that biliteracy is beneficial for students’ education and provides an advantage in the competitive job market.” The public is invited to attend this insightful lecture, which aims to shed light on the significance of biliteracy in empowering students and enhancing educational outcomes. BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — The Department of Speech and Theatre at Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) is excited to announce its Spring production, "Bigger Than Life! American Folktales and Legends," written by Cynthia Mercati. The show will take the stage at Garrett Auditorium, capturing the spirit of the American frontier with a lively old-time traveling medicine show format. "Bigger Than Life!" features energetic songs and beloved folktales, bringing to life legendary characters such as the Mississippi Screamer Sal Fink, the fierce Bess Call, cyclone cowboy Pecos Bill, giant-slayer Sally Cato, sharpshooter Little Miss Sure Shot Annie Oakley, and the legendary showman P.T. Barnum. The cast includes BMCU students, such as Giana Curasi as Bess Call, Lily-Ann Smith as Sally Cato, Alivia White as Annie Oakley, and Johnathon Hitt portraying both Pecos Bill and Frank Butler. BMCU alumni Thomas “Nate” Foster takes on the role of P.T. Barnum, along with community talents like Moriah Addison as Sal Fink, Ana Hamilton as the Mayor and Daughter, and Kingslee Hendrix as the Villain and Mean Cowboy. “This high-energy show is bursting at the seams,” said Christi Mitchell, director and Assistant Professor of Speech & Theatre. “Very family-friendly, this cast is doing a great job embracing their characters and bringing real historic people to life with humor and excitement.” Performances are scheduled for a matinee on March 5 at 11 a.m. and evening shows on March 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Garrett Auditorium. BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University proudly announces Dr. Ashley Coleman as the new Dean of Education. A native of Pontotoc, Coleman brings over a decade of educational experience and a strong commitment to student success. Coleman earned her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from the University of Mississippi, her Master of Education in School Leadership and Supervision from Belhaven University, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Freed-Hardeman University. She has a robust background in teaching and curriculum development, with a distinguished 15-year career in the K-12 sector, including 12 years of dedicated service with the Pontotoc County School District. Coleman taught English Language Arts for ten years before transitioning to the role of Curriculum Specialist and MTSS Director, where she served for five years. She also served as the district's New Teacher Mentor Coordinator. In addition to her work in education, Coleman is the owner of Level Up Educational Consulting LLC. Through her consulting firm, she specializes in resume enhancement, English Language Arts training, writing training, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and leadership development. Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University is excited to announce its annual Lessons and Carols service on Dec. 5, 2024, at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium and marks the official welcome of the Christmas season, celebrating the arrival of Jesus Christ, our Immanuel. This cherished campus community event, which is free to the public, will feature powerful performances by the Chorale and guest musicians. Attendees will be invited to join in a festive celebration centered around the traditional nine lessons of scripture, which articulate the prophecy of the promised Messiah and celebrate His miraculous birth in Bethlehem. Under the direction of Dr. Greg Long, chair and professor of music, along with Laura Long, instructor of music, the voice-auditioned choral ensemble will fill the auditorium with the spirit of Christmas through melodic holiday carols. Each carol will be interspersed with meaningful readings of the nine scripture passages by the university’s administration and faculty members. “This special event is one of my favorite experiences each year here on our BMCU campus as we welcome the Christmas season and celebrate again the glorious good news of God’s gift of salvation through the promised birth of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, our Immanuel,” Dr. Long said. “I love hearing the dramatic reading of the nine scripture lessons and the beautiful singing of the carols presented by the Chorale and the entire congregation with full audience participation. Blue Mountain, Miss.– Blue Mountain Christian University invites the community to a weekend of celebration and fellowship during its annual Founders Day and Homecoming events. This year’s festivities are set for Nov. 1-2, 2024, featuring a lineup of engaging activities for all ages. Kicking off the weekend on Friday, Nov. 1, will be the BMCU Chorale Fall Concert titled "How Great Your Name." This special performance, hosted by the Blue Mountain Christian University Department of Fine Arts, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, promising an unforgettable evening of music. Additionally, the Palmer Donnell House Guild will host the popular bluegrass and gospel band Murphy Ridge at 2 p.m. on Friday. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the enchanting atmosphere at the Palmer Donnell House. Homecoming festivities continue on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a beloved tradition welcoming back alumni and current players to the baseball diamond at 9 a.m. Following the baseball event, the Homecoming Court will be presented in the Tyler Gymnasium at 11 a.m. A pregame lunch will be available at Ray Dining Hall from noon to 1 p.m., providing a perfect opportunity for guests to mingle and celebrate. This event is open to the public, and admission is free. “I have invited a select group of talented home-schooled high school students from the Shepherd’s Horn music school in Bartlett, TN to join with the Chorale in singing “Jubilate Deo” by Peter Anglea and “Te Deum” by W. A. Mozart. We are also inviting a select group of singers from the New Albany Presbyterian Church sanctuary choir to combine with the Chorale on several new selections of Psalms and hymns. The concert will conclude with two favorite anthems of mine in which alumni singers from the Chorale will be invited to come up on stage and sing with the Chorale once again in a joyful finale for our annual Founder’s Day celebration. Blue Mountain, Miss. —Blue Mountain Christian University School of Nursing is proud to announce that it has received accreditation for its baccalaureate degree program in nursing for a period of five years, extending to June 30, 2029. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) granted this accreditation after evaluating the program based on the CCNE Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs. The accreditation action is effective as of Nov. 13, 2023, and the next on-site evaluation is scheduled for the fall of 2028. The Pontotoc native completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science through the LCM Consortium of which BMCU is a member. As a student at BMCU, he participated in cross country, track, and bowling teams. The Computer Science program at BMCU equips graduates with both scientific and practical expertise that can be applied to a wide range of disciplines. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), software developers are among the highest paid professionals with a 2020 annual median salary of $110,140. The BLS estimates that the number of software developer jobs will grow 22% from 2020 to 2030. CNBC estimates that there are over 700,000 open jobs in tech, most of which require a technically focused skillset. "We are thrilled to have our first graduate from the Computer Science program at BMCU," said Dr. Barbara McMillin, President of BMCU. "Our goal is to provide our students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their chosen careers." Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) was honored to have JJ Jasper as the speaker for the 2024 commencement ceremony. The ceremony was held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium. JJ Jasper is a nationally recognized veteran morning on-air radio personality, best-selling author, comedian, dedicated Christian and devoted family man. Jasper hosts a national morning radio show on American Family Radio network. When he's not motivating listeners with his unique brand of humor and encouragement, he is entertaining people as a stand-up comedian and keynote speaker. Jasper and his wife, Melanie, along with their children live in Tupelo. Jasper addressed the graduates, encouraging them to “stay in the Word, pray for wisdom, grow in wisdom, and strive to be a servant.” He also reflected on the value of an education at BMCU, highlighting the Christ-centered focus and Christian worldview. It was an extra special occasion for Jasper as his daughter, Maddie, was among the graduates at the ceremony. The ceremony was a momentous occasion, and over one hundred graduates, eight from foreign countries, combined of bachelor's and master's degrees became BMCU alumni. BMCU President Dr. Barbara McMillin expressed her pride in the graduating class, stating, "It is an honor to congratulate these students and to send them out with a top-quality education made distinctive by a Christian worldview. Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) is pleased to announce the availability of limited-time tuition scholarships for its master's programs. These scholarships are available to all BMCU graduates who will be entering a master's program in or before the fall 2028 term. The tuition scholarships will be effective beginning summer 2024 and the master’s program must be completed within three years. The master's degree programs available for the scholarship include Master of Education, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Science in Kinesiology. Additionally, there is a scholarship available to any teacher currently employed in the following counties: Alcorn, Benton, Marshall, Prentiss, Tippah, or Union. "We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to our BMCU graduates," says President Dr. Barbara McMillin. "Our goal is to make high-quality education accessible and affordable for our students, and these scholarships are one way we can achieve that."
